At Carolina Buddhist Vihara we will gather for the Poson Poya (full moon observance) on Sunday June 3rd, in the morning. (Schedule is below.)
This year we have an extra full moon in between Vesak and Poson. I am told on good authority that the upcoming full moon is one of two Poson moons, called “Adhi-Poson”. However, many temples are celebrating it as a second Vesak moon. Either way, it is a festive occasion.
We have another reason to count this day as special, and that is the consecration of our newly rebuilt stupa! Suddenly, it is being repaired! We will hold this ceremony after some final work this Sunday morning (your help is requested!) See below for more information.
POYA SCHEDULE THIS SUNDAY (June 3rd, 2007)
8:00 AM Breakfast; then finishing work on the stupa (please help!), plus decorating the yard for Poya
9:30 AM 8 Precepts, chanting, and /or meditation 10:30 AM Dhamma talk
Lunch dana will be around noon (for newcomers, it is “potluck” style) After lunch will be the consecration of the Stupa, and Dhamma discussion.
For kids there will be a craft project. If time permits, we will give a special teaching for them. (Please bring a smock or something to protect kids’ good clothing from permanent markers.)
In past years we sometimes started Poya days with group meditation as early as 5:30 AM … if anyone is interested in this time, please let me know.
